Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, the former Governor of Ondo State, has lauded Chief Reuben Fasoranti, the leader of Afenifere, for his unwavering commitment to restoring unity within the pan-Yoruba socio-political association. Mimiko played a role in the reconciliation committee formed during the most recent Afenifere meeting, which took place at Chief Fasoranti’s residence in Akure.
During his remarks, Mimiko commended Chief Fasoranti’s proactive approach to addressing internal misunderstandings within Afenifere. He acknowledged that these differences have surfaced within the organization and expressed gratitude to Chief Fasoranti for taking the initiative to set up a committee aimed at preserving Afenifere’s unity.
Mimiko stressed the importance of unity, highlighting that Afenifere’s core mandate has always been to champion the interests of the Yoruba people. He praised Chief Fasoranti’s commitment to leaving a lasting legacy of a united Afenifere, which he emphasized in his speech.
The former Governor further stated that Chief Fasoranti’s stance on unity and peace is a testament to his wisdom and humility. He expressed excitement about this position and affirmed that anyone not advocating for peace and unity within Afenifere is not aligning with Chief Fasoranti’s vision.
However, when asked whether the other faction of Afenifere would embrace this reconciliation effort, Mimiko admitted uncertainty, stating that Chief Fasoranti’s directive is clear: to spare no effort in ensuring Afenifere remains united and strong. The reconciliation committee’s goal is to achieve this unity and fortify the group, emphasizing its commitment to the Yoruba people’s interests.
