Former Minister of Interior, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola, launched the ‘Omoluabi Caucus’ within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State. The caucus aims to “uphold the progressive ideals and unite like-minded individuals within the party.”
Speaking at the launch event in Ilesa, Aregbesola emphasized that “political parties are an amalgamation of different interests and tendencies” and likened the caucus to those found in the US parties. He highlighted that the Omoluabi Caucus represents “the genuine foundation members of the party” and their commitment to the party’s endurance, drawing parallels to the Republican and Democratic Parties.
Aregbesola stated that the caucus’s formation aimed to “renew the path of the members in progressive politics, as inherited from Chief Obafemi Awolowo, and Chief Bola Ige, amongst other progressives.” He acknowledged the need to “reclaim our place in the political firmament in Osun” by reconnecting with these ideals following recent election setbacks.
