HAF Scale Up Hygiene Project Phase III Close Out: Oyo Govt Calls For Improved-Hygiene Behaviour

Oyo state government has called on residents of the state to continue to improve their hygiene behaviours, stating that the government is ready to support and promote any good hygiene projects in the state.

This was disclosed by the Chairman, Oyo State Rural Water and Sanitation Agency (OYRUWASSA), Engineer Najeem Omirinde on Thursday, during the closing out of the Hygiene Project Phase III in the state.

The project was put by the Oyo state government in collaboration with Heineken African Foundation (HAF) WaterAid Nigeria and Living Word Mission.

Speaking at the programme, the chairman commended the facilitators of the project for their support and commitment towards ensuring the good health of Oyo state residents.

He appealed to them to take ownership of the facilities and put on a good maintenance culture.

His words: “The facilitators have been giving us assistance since the covid-19 period. Different facilities to over 150 schools, palaces, and many other places in the communities. We appeal to them that if they have any other project, we are ready for them, the government is ready for them.”

Blessing Ikpe, the representative of WaterAid Nigeria stated that over 29,000 people have been using the facilities in the state.

She said the state now boasts of a significant water supply and sanitation policy which is going to attract a lot of funding for the State.

Other stakeholders who spoke at the event include the UNICEF consultant, Mr Emmanuel Orebiyi who stated that effective hygiene promotion is aimed at three things which are political leadership, enabling environment, and the promotion of the supply and demand aspect.

Also representing LIWOM, Mr. Samuel Adeniyi, stated that the project is a large one and worth celebrating.

He added that they have improved the condition of hygiene in the state since their arrival. He urged them to continue to do more.

Present at the event included representative of NEWSAN, Oluwasegun Adio, member of Oyo State House Of Assembly, Hon Olagoke Akinajo, among other.
