Avoid power tussle with Olu, ruling house tells new Ologbotsere

Leaders and members of the Ginuwa I Ruling House of Warri Kingdom in Delta State have affirmed the authority of the Olu of Warri Kingdom, Ogiame Atuwatse III, “to either derobe or validate any title holder in the kingdom.”

While commending the Olu of Warri on the recent conferment of the distinguished title of Ologbotsere on Chief Oma Eyewuoma,  the Ginuwa I Ruling House maintained that the Olu reserved the right to confer any of such titles “on any credible, competent and distinguished personality in and outside the Warri Kingdom.”

The ruling house, however, advised the new Ologbotsere not not to see himself as rival to the Olu “as was the unfortunate development sometime in history, as such is an aberration and anachronistic to loyalty, peace and stability in the kingdom.”

They added that, “The Ologbotsere should see his position as first amongst equals with other chiefs. The Ologbotsere should wholeheartedly support the Olu of Warri in his drive for the peaceful coexistence amongst Itsekiri people and her neighbours by giving quality, genuine advice and supporting commitment absolutely legal to His Majesty’s desire for a prosperous people.”

The PUNCH had reported that the Olu of Warri on April 16 installed Eyewuoma as the new Ologbotsere to replace Ayiri Emami,  who he had earlier in 2021 been stripped of the title.

But Emami has gone to court to challenge his removal.

The Ginuwa I Ruling House, in a statement on Thursday, said it was in full support of the moves made by the Olu “to bring peace to the kingdom, regarding the Ologbotsere title.”

The statement was signed by the chairman, secretary and spokesman for the ruling house,  Emmanuel Okotie-Eboh, Isaac Dorsu, and Wilson Alatsha, respectively.

“The discretionary power of the Olu is not shared with any person or authority in any guise,” the ruling house said in a statement on Thursday at the end of its meeting.
