According to the media office, Tinubu travelled out to rest “after a very exhaustive campaign and election season.”

Rahman said while abroad the President-elect would also plan his transition programme ahead of May 29 inauguration.

He said, “The President-elect left the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Ikeja for Europe on Tuesday night.

“The President-elect decided to take a break after the hectic campaign and election season to rest in Paris and London, preparatory to going to Saudi Arabia for Umrah (Lesser Hajj) and the Ramadan Fast that begins Thursday .

“While away, the President-elect will also use the opportunity to plan his transition programme. He has directed all the senior aides and campaign staff to also go and observe a short rest. He is expected back in the country soon.”

Meanwhile, the Vice-Chancellor, Federal University, Oye Ekiti, Prof. Abayomi Fasina, has advised the President-elect to consider approving autonomy for federal universities when he gets into office.

According to Fasina, autonomy for federal varsities will bring lecturers’ strikes to an end and  sanitise the university system.

The VC, who spoke at Oye Ekiti on Wednesday during the fourth matriculation ceremony for fresh post-graduate students of FUOYE, noted that incessant strikes was one of the problems hampering tertiary education in Nigeria.

Fasina said, “I want to appeal to our incoming president, Senator Bola Tinubu, to approve university autonomy, which will put an end to the incessant strikes that always affect the academic calendar of the tertiary institutions.”
