Vote leaders with good track records – Hamzat

The Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, has called on Nigerians to vote for credible leaders based on their antecedents to find solutions to the country’s problems.

According to a statement on Monday, the deputy governor made the call during the Nasrul-Lahi-L-Fatih Society workshop themed, “Credible leadership and good governance – From home to hero,’ held at Ikeja GRA.

Hamzat also urged citizens to verify the information given to prevent being swayed by lies and false statistics.

He said, “Nigerians must vote in leaders with good antecedents and not be swayed by emotions to find lasting solutions to the country’s challenges. Governance is not about emotions or trial and error. We must look at what we want. In Nigeria today, we must have a coincidence of wants.

“We must agree and be ready to make sacrifices for our children. It is not about everybody thinking they have the solutions to the country’s problems. We should stop attacking ourselves. There must be a partnership.

“Nigerians should be informed and verify information given so that they will not be deceived with bogus statistics and lies thrown around. We must come together to solve the nation’s problems and there must be partnership and coincidence of wants among all citizens.”

In his presentation, a former Governor of Kano State, Dr Rabiu Kwakwanso, who was represented by Alhaji Olarewaju Kamaal, lamented the breakdown of family values across the country.

“The various social vices in the country are due to the breakdown of the family structure which is the bedrock of any society, and I enjoin religious leaders and scholars to tell Nigerians to be closer to God and pray for their leaders,” he said.

The President of NASFAT, Mr Niyi Yussuf, noted that the foundation for good governance must be laid from the family which is the first unit of socialisation.
