Indigenes urge Osun govt to fill Aree stool

A group of indigenes of Iree town in Osun State, under the aegis of Iree Progressives Association, has urged the state government to fill the vacant stool of Aree without further delay.

The Aree stool became vacant in July 2018, after Oba Jimoh Olayoonu joined his ancestors but efforts to appoint a new monarch for the town have been unsuccessful.

However, an Osun State High Court, sitting in Osogbo, had directed the town’s kingmakers to immediately commence the process of selecting a new Aree.

But many stakeholders in the town, who preferred anonymity in separate interviews, had accused the state government of frustrating the commencement of the selection process.

Speaking exclusively with Saturday PUNCH, IPA’s National President, Aare Oluwole Taiwo, said the indigenes were already bored by the delay in the appointment of a monarch for the town.

Taiwo said, “Everyone is bored over the delay. The government should resolve the issues once and for all. It is going to be five years that Iree has been without a king. Whoever the government feels is competent and can run the town should be appointed.”

When contacted for a reaction to the allegation against the government, the Special Adviser to the governor on Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr Rasaq Adeosun, said the process of appointing new Aree had commenced.

“Aree Chieftaincy is like other chieftaincy matters. The process is on,” Adeosun added
