The leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students, Zone ‘D’ South West, on Thursday, blocked a major highway in Gbongan, Osun state in the protest of the lingering industrial action embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities.

Speaking with our correspondent, the Zone ‘D’ coordinator, Olatunji Adegboye, demanded a law that would prohibit children of politicians from schooling abroad.

Adegboye said such a law would make the operation of the public universities to be more efficient.

The protesters had blocked Ife/Ibadan road to traffic, and prevented vehicular movement, with many commuters caught on road, stranded for several hours.

Speaking further, Adegboye, who demanded proper funding of education, also passed vote-of-no confidence on the Minister of Education, Mr. Adamu Adamu, insisting that the Minister was incompetent in handling the disagreement between ASUU and the Federal Government.

He said, “we are on the road because of the ongoing ASUU strike that has started since February 14, it’s 7 months already. We are tired of staying at home, we want to resume back to our different institutions.

“We are demanding proper funding of education sector. We are passing vote of no confidence on the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu because I believe he is not competent.

“We want the legislative arm to pass a bill that will make it impossible for children of politicians to travel outside the country to study. They should be here and study with us together in Nigeria since we are all equal. Assuming their children are studying here, they won’t be doing what they are doing.”
