The Vice-Chancellor, Covenant University, Ogun State, Prof. Abiodun Adebayo, has said the university’s vision is to raise a new generation of leaders.

Adebayo disclosed this when The PUNCH management team paid a courtesy visit to the university on Tuesday.

He said, “Media houses should project the positive values of our nation. Positive news should be projected in Nigeria.

“At CU, our vision is to raise a new generation of leaders. We want to make a change also, not just for job seekers, but for leading leaders.”

Adebayo also said the university looked forward to celebrating the great achievements and global impacts of the institution, saying it would be 20 years old on October 21, 2022.

He appealed to the media to always project positive news, values, and achievements of Nigerians.

He added, “We must change the narratives and change our nation. Everywhere you go, Nigerians are known for something negative. If you don’t blow your trumpet, no one will blow it for you.

“We trend in negative news all over the world, and it is because of what they pick from our news media that mars our image as a nation. There are great things happening in Nigeria. These are the things we should focus on. At Covenant University, we are value-driven. We are here to change the narratives of black men. We must change our old ways of thinking as a nation.”

The acting Registrar, Mr Emmanuel Igban, also regretted that the media had always shown little or no interest in positive news and groundbreaking achievements of Nigeria and Nigerians, but rather gave negative news prominence.
